A survey from ResumeBuilder.com of 800 retirees, at least 54 years old, found one in five are saying they are likely to return to work this year, with 69% citing rising inflation and costs of living.

Stacie Haller, a career consultant with ResumeBuilder said, “There is no longer a retirement age, and people want to be engaged longer. Others are returning to the workplace for financial reasons, and in this new work world, there are now more options for them to return with the advent of remote work [and] more part-time work for older workers who cannot commit to a full workweek.”

34% of those going back to work said their daily expense had increased “greatly” over just the past three months. 83% were concerned about their overall finances, and 39 were “highly concerned.” 19% said their retirements were not sufficient to cover their costs of living.

58% of those considering returning to work said they intended to do so in a different industry than the one they retired from. 19% said they would return to their previous employer, while 23% said they would seek a different employer, but remain in the same field.
