Target has reached a deal with Clockwork, the company producing the world’s first manicure robot, to include its robot is six US Target stores, including stores in Texas, California, and Minnesota.

Clockwork’s manicure robot uses Artificial Intelligence and 3D technology to recognize the size and shape of a user’s nails, and can then even paint them in under 10 minutes.

Former Toys ‘R’ Us CEO and retail consultant Jerry Storch said the deal is a win for Target, as well as its customers.  He noted as competition heats up in the retail space for customer’s inflation-wracked dollars, retailers need to emphasize the customer experience more, so as to increase store traffic and succeed over others.

Storch said, “The more fun added to the store environment, the better it is. I applaud Target for doing it. This is something clever and fun.”

It is predicted all professional service robots, including manicure bots, will see rapid growth in the coming years, with revenue revenue reaching $170 billion by 2030, according to Boston Consulting Group. Already, the process of incorporation of the technology has begun.

According to Clockwork CEO Renuka Apte Target is not the only retailer approaching the company. In an interview, she said, demand for the company’s machine is “very strong” and they are being approached by companies all over the world.

She said, “We’re pushing tens of thousands of partnership requests at this point. Most of the contracts we’re signing today are for next year… We are backed up due to very strong demand.” Asked how much the machines cost, Apte declined to name a figure.

She went on, “From dentists to retail — everyone is saying this makes sense in our location. Our rule of thumb has always been to be where people already are, and where they’re spending most of their time.”
