Neuralinks “show and tell” event, which was to be held October 31st, has been pushed back a month to November 30th according to a new tweet by company founder Elon Musk. No further information on why the event was delayed was provided.

The billionaire founder of such companies as SpaceX and Tesla had promised that on October 31st, the brain-chip interface company would produce an event updating everyone on the status of its technology development,

Based in San Francisco, Neuralink was created to develop brain-computer interfaces which would help cure neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s, dementia, and spinal cord issues, as well as facilitate human cognitive-enhancements. It was hoped one day these interfaces would allow control of electronic devices with mere thoughts as well as enhance the brain’s computing power and the cognitive capabilities of humans. There is even speculation of one day even fusing human intelligence with artificial intelligence.

However the company has run into problems on the regulatory front. In a 2019 presentation, Musk had indicated that Neuralink intended to attain regulatory approval for trials that would implant the chips into humans by the end of 2020. However there has still been no such approval, and the company still has not shown a working prototype which could be implanted and left in place safely. Of eight animals in which the chips were implanted, only two were euthanized at the end of the trial as expected, to gain histological data on the immunogenicity of the implant, while six needed to be euthanized due to complications from the medical procedure.

Musk has since approached another developer of similar tech, Synchron Inc. looking to invest in their company after he had voiced his frustrations to Neuralink employees, over the slow process of attaining regulatory approval for their devices.
