On Wednesday, Meta Platforms announced it was beefing up its offering of features on Instagram, including a new tool allowing users to trade digital collectibles, as it looks to help users monetize their accounts and activities on the platform.

The company also announced that soon users will be able to directly support the creators they follow by buying their non-fungible-tokens (NFTs) right within Instagram.

The company said the new features would be undergoing beta-testing with a small group of creators based in the United States, however it plans to expand the program to more countries soon.

As Meta has been competing with other platforms like TikTok for talent and influencers, it has been rolling out more features that will allow users to make money off their activity on the platform, hoping to draw those users, and the advertising dollars they will generate to Instagram.

Meta said it would also expand access to subscriptions on Instagram to all eligible creators in the US, so they ight earn a more predictable income stream on the photo-sharing platform.

The company also announced it would introduce gifts on Instagram, starting with Reels, so fans can more easily contribute income to the creators they follow.

The company is also upgrading Facebook profiles, offering a professional mode which will allow creators to maintain their personal profile, while also launching a public presence for their professional creator accounts.
