This week saw 9 active drilling rigs added to the United States total, according to Baker Hughes data released Friday.

The total United States rig count now stands at 767. That is 279 rigs higher than at this point last year.

Oil rigs were up by 6 this week to 605, while gas rigs rose by 2 to 157, and miscellaneous rigs rose by 1 to a total of 5.

The Permian Basin saw its rig count rise by 2 to 351. Eagle Ford rigs saw 2 added to bring the total there to 72. So far oil and gas rigs are up by 108 over the number this time last year.

The Frac Spread Count from Primary Vision, which measures the number of crews assigned to finish unfinished wells, viewed as a more cost efficient process than drilling entirely new wells, rose to 290 in the week ended July 22. That number was 243 this time last year.

Overall, crude oil production was up in the United States by 200,000 barrels per day, to 12.1 million barrels per day in the week ending July 22, according to the Energy Information Administration.
