Months after a massive backlash against American beer brand Bud Light over its social media promotion with controversial transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, sales of the iconic brand are continuing to slide.

A report by Yahoo Finance citing new Nielsen data showed that for the week ending August 5th, sales of Bud Light plunged 26.5%, beating out the 25.9% week over week fall seen for the period ending June 17th.

The decline in volumes also accelerated, falling 29.7%, compared to the previous week’s 29.3% fall.

In a note to clients, Evercore ISI analyst Robert Ottenstein wrote, “Recent data continues to show that tracked channels reached a point of stabilization at significantly lower levels for Anheuser-Busch InBev than pre-controversy.”

The controversy began with an Instagram video by the transgender influencer posted on April 1st, which was designed to promote the light beer in association with the March Madness basketball tournament. In the ad, Mulvaney, dressed in a black cocktail dress, carried a six-pack of Bud Light while pretending to be ignorant about sports. In a second ad, Mulvaney was in a bathtub, holding a can of the beer which featured the influencer’s face on it.

The advertisements triggered an immediate backlash, with rock music star Kid Rock shooting cases of the beer with a submachine gun, and proclaiming he would never drink it again. Other fans of the brand immediately followed suit, posting their own videos proclaiming they would never drink it again.

On Friday, Mulvaney posted a new video to social media, attacking the beer brand, and parent company Anheuser-Busch, accusing them of abandoning the TikTocker, and warning the brand that LGBTQ people are also beer drinkers.

Mulvaney has reportedly made up to $1 million over the last year promoting many traditionally women’s products, from sports bras, to makeup, to tampons, even though the influencer only began their gender transition one year ago.
